Smile!

Hello!

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog, the theme is “inky backgrounds”, and I thought it would be fun to play around with some distress inks to create a watercolor rainbow behind some hearts for a bright and happy greeting… perfect for making someone “smile”! :)

In addition to the inky background, the use of the die cut hearts was inspired by the current challenge over at Muse (#100). Michelle Ferguson designed a beautiful card with a single heart inside a larger heart, and was the inspirational card for this week’s Muse challenge.

I started off by creating a heart shape using the Echo Park “heart” cut file; resizing it into two different sizes and duplicating the two of them until I created the shape of a heart that I was happy with.

Once my shape was created, I cut it out with my Silhouette Cameo and white cardstock, and then stamped the Paper Smooches “Smile” sentiment from the “Scripty Sayings” stamp set, before putting the panel aside while I worked on my “inky” background.

Smile_3Taking a piece of watercolor paper and a rainbow of Tim Holtz distress inks (Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint, Peacock Feathers and Dusty Concord), I began by applying a wash of water to my paper to allow the colors to fully blend. I then began to drop in colors of ink in a random order. I then heavily misted my paper with water to allow the colors to blend even more before drying it with my heat gun.

After the paper was dry, I layered the heart panel on top with regular adhesive. I then layered the entire piece to my patterned-paper covered card base with foam tape and tied a red sheer ribbon around the bottom. For a bit of interest, I applied some Wink of Stella glitter (which I absolutely love) to the insides of all the die cut hearts.

I hope you enjoyed this really cute and happy card for today… Thanks for stopping by!
